With every boat, there’s an origin story. In the case of the Aquila 47 Molokai power catamaran, it starts with MarineMax, which saw people renting boats for bareboat charters. MarineMax Vacations was born. After experimenting with several production yachts, the company decided to build its own: the Aquila line, designed for charter as well as for sale to owner-operators.

Sales are uncomplicated: Build a boat that buyers want at a price they can afford. Charter is another creature because a charter yacht has to be desirable and bulletproof. Bareboats have to be rugged, easily maintained and even easier to repair. Thus, the Aquila line became a success.

Now MarineMax spies a new niche: sport fishing. While previous iterations of the Aquila power catamaran have generally been comfy cruisers—and though the 28 Molokai dipped the builder’s toe into the sport-fish scene—the Aquila 47 Molokai has serious offshore angling written all over it. This boat can get to the fishing grounds at 60-plus knots, has amenities ranging from bait tanks to fish boxes, and is built with a nicely outfitted cabin for long weekends out chasing pelagics. At nearly 15 feet wide, this center-console cat has uncluttered 22-inch-wide walkways for chasing a fish all around. There’s also a 15-by-4-foot casting platform forward. The in-deck fish boxes are as long as 8 feet, and there are twin 42-gallon transom livewells.

On the day before I got on board, 15 anglers took the same 47 Molokai into the Gulf Stream to chase mahimahi and wahoo. They didn’t feel crowded because the 47 Molokai is CE-certified for as many as 20 passengers, with forward- and aft-facing seats. Under the carbon-fiber hardtop—which is braced for an optional Pipewelders tower—there’s seating for seven people in Stidd seats. Three are in front at the helm, and four are on a mezzanine level for kibitzing about the action.

The dash is user-friendly with twin (or triple) Garmin multifunction displays, CZone switching to control every system, neatly labeled overhead switches and buttons, custom Fusion audio and a Mercury joystick. Flipping up a panel reveals four ignition switches. Standard power on the 47 Molokai is twin 600 hp Mercury V-12 Verados, with quad 400 hp Mercury outboards optional and propelling the 47 Molokai to hit those eye-watering top speeds.

Overnight accommodations include a queen-size berth. Headroom belowdecks is 6 feet, 7 inches. Courtesy Aquila

The 1,600 hp clamped to the transom is impressive, but so are other numbers associated with this slippery Peart Yacht Design hull. Running at 47 knots with the quad 400s, the 1,048 gallons of fuel provide a nonstop range of 600 miles with 10 percent reserves.

During my ride, we had a lumpy Gulf Stream with washing-machine chop. Even still, the 47 Molokai was soft-riding and comfortable, including in beam-to seas. Aquila raised the tunnel clearance above water, so there was no sneezing spray blown forward between the hulls, nor any slapping of waves at lower speeds. Quite simply, the power cat felt sidewalk-solid, even when we were at rest offshore.

The boat jumps onto plane quickly, and it was a giggle to use the knob on the steering wheel to spin doughnuts. Even better, at about 31 knots, the sound barely touched 78 decibels, which made for easy conversation.

Aquila 47 Molokai
The seven Stidd helm seats mean no one is sitting on beanbags for the ride out and back. Courtesy Aquila

Aquila built the hull using a lot of carbon fiber, and with resins that are 100 percent vinylester as well as infused for strength. Fore and aft watertight bulkheads add to the vessel’s monocoque strength. Muscular hinges on the three boarding doors (port, starboard and aft) make dive and dock access easy. Every hatch and locker has deep gutters to handle tropical downpours or overeager washdowns.

As a creature comfort, the 47 Molokai has a portable toilet in the cabin, which is outfitted to yacht-level finish with a queen-size berth, two skylights, windows, 6-foot-7-inch headroom, and an enclosed head with a shower. A pantograph door from the portside deck opens directly into the head, keeping the cabin pristine during fishing hours. With the standard lithium batteries, air conditioning will run for a solid eight hours.

I was also impressed by the carefully labeled, tidily loomed and accessible systems. From the baitwells (with a Hooker Pumps sea chest) to the fresh- and saltwater washdown plumbing, everything is easily reached for service. The two heavy-gauge aluminum fuel tanks have a transfer system to run off both or just one, and a charcoal fuel filter is standard.

The 47 Molokai that I got aboard also had the standard 20-plus rod holders and 10 spring-mounted cleats, plus an optional Release Marine leaning post, Gemlux outriggers, and Release Marine ladder-back seats in place of the standard Stidds.

This power cat is worth considering for owners who want a serious sport-fishing vessel, a way to entertain friends and family, or an enjoyable weekender. Beautifully designed and built, this boat is (don’t hate me) the cat’s pajamas.

Peart Yacht Design

Headed by naval architect Chris Peart, this team is based in catamaran-rich South Africa. The company’s name is increasingly well known in North America. Power-cat design is a specialty, from initial concepts to engineering details.

CE-Certified

The CE designation stands for Conformité Européenne. It ensures compliance with European safety and performance standards. In this case, the 47 Molokai is certified for passengers in the categories of offshore, coastal and inland.

Soul Mates, a 2020 Azimut Yachts 60 Fly, has 32-knot speed, three staterooms and is asking $1.59 million through MarineMax. Courtesy MarineMax

Soul Mates, a 2020 Azimut 60 Fly, is equally at home doing extended island-hopping voyages in the Caribbean, or taking a relaxing jaunt down the coast for a long weekend. This is a one-owner yacht that is ready for its next cruise and is on the market at a reduced price of $1.59 million.

MarineMax stated that “Soul Mates is a well-cared for, fully equipped boat with extensive premium options tailored for exploring the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.”

The yacht’s foredeck offers an array of seating options as well as the ability to shade the entire space. Courtesy MarineMax

Soul Mates has a solid 79,400-pound displacement, but this yacht can move. Powered with twin Volvo Penta D13 diesel engines, this Azimut 60 Fly will promptly accelerate up to 32 knots. The comfortable cruise speed is around 26 knots. Pull the throttles back to around 21 knots to increase fuel efficiency and extend the vessel’s cruising range to 360 nautical miles. A Seakeeper gyrostabilizer virtually eliminates roll, enhancing cruising comfort. A bow thruster helps during close-quarter maneuvers.

Owners can entertain several guests on Soul Mates spacious flybridge, aft deck and foredeck. Access to the flybridge is via a set of steps from the aft deck. The flybridge has a fiberglass hardtop that covers the helm to port, cushioned bench-style seats to starboard and a C-shaped dinette abaft the helm. The aft deck is open with sofas to port and starboard, allowing guests to relax underway and soak up the sun. Fire up the barbecue for lunch and enjoy a few beverages too. The flybridge ice maker and refrigerator are built into the wet bar, which is a plus for convenience.

Soul Mates’ cockpit is shaded by the flybridge overhang with a forward-facing, bench-style seat with table and chairs and a teak sole. Guests can relax watching a football game, or easily access the swim platform, foredeck and salon. A swim platform provides seamless water access. Walk up to the foredeck, which has a convertible setup. All the seats convert to sun pads or change it up with a dinette-style layout for sundowners with friends. If the sun gets too hot, the foredeck sun shade sail will help keep the space cool.

Enter the salon through a sliding glass door from the aft deck. Windows flanking the salon allow natural light to flow through the main deck. Guests can relax on sofas to both port and starboard, or enjoy a meal at the dinette to starboard. The dinette is directly across from the galley and the yacht’s designers built in a full-size window, creating panoramic views. A hi-lo table folds open with seating for four adults.

The galley is cozy and centrally located. It’s equipped with a Miele cooktop and oven, a refrigerator/freezer and wine chiller. An array of cabinets handle stowage for cruising provisions. Upper cabinets over the cooktop and sink were removed to enhance the views through the galley window.

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of three staterooms. The master stateroom has a king-sized berth with an en suite head. Owners will find plenty of stowage space for extended journeys and even a built-in safe. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a queen-sized berth and two additional guests can relax in the third guest stateroom with twin-sized berths. There is a crew space with twin-sized berths, which could also be used for extra stowage or for a couple of teenagers looking for privacy.

Carlisle Royale, a 2015 Ocean Alexander 85, has four staterooms, a 2,000-nautical-mile range, 23-knot speed and is asking $3.69 million.

The salon has an elegant vibe, accented by wood veneers and cabinets in a diamond wood-grain pattern. There is a custom dining table and granite countertops at the wet bar and the TV cabinet. Side and forward windows allow natural light into the salon and allows guests who are seated at the port side L-shaped sofa to enjoy panoramic views. Enjoy a bottle of wine from the wine cooler located inside the cabinet, while dinner is being prepared. Sliding glass doors offer direct access to the cockpit.

The flybridge is equal parts navigation hub and entertainment space. There is a retractable sunroof over the helm area too. Courtesy MarineMax

The galley is located forward of the salon in an open arrangement. I thought I preferred an aft-galley arrangement, but after seeing the layout of Carlisle Royale, I’m torn. With quick access to stairs going from the pilothouse to the flybridge, owners can quickly access the festivities up top while also entertaining guests in the salon and the cockpit. It’s a smart setup. Large countertops with a stainless-steel sink provide plenty of room for meal prep, and an electric cooktop, microwave and oven allow owners to prepare meals while cruising. Stow cold goods in a full-sized, 36-inch Jenn-Air refrigerator, and galley accessories/dry goods in the numerous cabinets. Clean up is made easy with a Whirlpool garbage disposal and under-counter dishwasher. Take a coffee break at the breakfast nook forward of the galley.

The motoryacht’s single-seat lower helm station is located forward and to port with side-deck access via a pantograph door. Carlisle Royale has a hefty 167,000-pound, blue-water ready displacement, but this yacht can run when desired. Powered by twin 1,600 hp MTU diesel engines, this 2015 Ocean Alexander 85 will spool up to almost 24 knots. Throttle back to a leisurely 10-knot cruise speed and range extends to around 2,050 nautical miles. Some of Carlisle Royale helm technology and upgrades include:

  • Keypower hydraulic bow thrusters
  • Keypower hydraulic stabilizers
  • Hydraulic steering system
  • Furuno DRS12A Radar
  • Furuno GP33OB GPS
  • Furuno Navpilot 700
  • Furuno M604A VHF
  • Furuno Fishfinder DFF1
  • Furuno AIS with NMEA GPS
  • Furuno FA70001A Multi-station system
Ocean Alexander 85 Carlisle Royale
Low-profile furniture, generous glass and mirrors work in concert to create a sense of volume in the salon. Courtesy MarineMax

Carlisle Royale’s flybridge is protected by a fiberglass hardtop with an electric sunroof over the helm. Fire up the grill and cook a few hamburgers for lunch, there plenty of seats are available at the C-shaped cushioned settee with table. Or entertain guests from the wet bar while watching a baseball game in the open-air environment. Relax in the Jacuzzi tub on an evening jaunt down the coast, or launch the tender for an excursion to a private beach.

The yacht’s swim platform and aft deck have barefoot-friendly teak soles. Enjoy a meal in the shade on the aft deck’s cushioned bench-style settee with table, or walk around to the foredeck to enjoy some fun in the sun on a set of sun pads. Take a dive into the ocean from the swim platform, which also has plenty of room for a couple to sit out and catch a few rays.  A set of stairs on the aft deck provide easy access to the flybridge.

After a long day of entertaining, owners can retire to one of four staterooms. The owners’ stateroom has a king-sized berth with en suite head. Two night stands, a built-in vanity on the port side and a sofa to starboard offer the comforts of home. His-and-hers sinks, a shower, a vanity and heated bathroom soles add to the elegance. There’s also a VIP stateroom with a queen berth and en suite head as well as guest staterooms with single and double berths.

MarineMax Yachts stated, “This yacht is guaranteed to elevate your boating experience to a whole new level. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, every inch of this vessel exudes elegance and sophistication. The 2015 Ocean Alexander 85 boasts a spacious and beautifully-designed interior, perfect for entertaining guests or enjoying quality time with family and friends. With its expansive salon, luxurious staterooms, and state-of-the-art amenities, this yacht offers a sanctuary of comfort and relaxation on the water.”

For cruisers looking for a power catamaran ready for voyaging adventures, there is Liquid, a 2021 Aquila 54. This power cat is capable of entertaining 30 guests and sleeping 10 (or more). Liquid has a reported top-end speed of 22 knots, a cruising speed of 15.5 knots and a range of almost 1,000 nautical miles at 7.8 knots. Liquid just came on the market and is asking just under $2.17 million.

“The 54′s interior has square footage that’s roughly the same as a 68- to 70-foot monohull. It’s also a smartly designed space: The cockpit has a table for alfresco dining, as well as three stools at a bar that connects to the galley inside via an opening window and door. Thanks to the boat’s 25-foot beam, the main deck effectively turns into one vast social area. Add the salon’s seating, 360-degree banks of windows and 6-foot-9-inch headroom, and the area feels more like a waterfront condo than a boat,” as reported in Yachting.

Aquila 54 Liquid
Flip-up the aft galley’s window and open the sliding door to connect the salon and cockpit spaces. Courtesy MarineMax

Liquid’s flybridge can be accessed by two sets of stairs. The main access point is from the aft deck, but a second set of stairs from the fore deck also leads up to the flybridge. The Portuguese-style flybridge, with a walkaround forward of the windscreen, is enclosed and has two electrically operated hatches in the hardtop. Guests can relax in the air-conditioned space with a leather settee and table that seats nine, or on the aft deck, which is partially shaded by the hardtop. The electric BBQ, fridge, sink and ice maker on the aft deck allows owners to easily entertain guests up here.

The flybridge offers everyone panoramic views and opening the sliding glass doors, sunroof and windows creates an open-air vibe. The captain has clean sightlines and twin Volvo Penta D6 diesel engines that push Liquid up to that top speed of 22 knots. The aforementioned 15.5 knots is a comfortable cruise speed, and dialing it back to around 7 knots will extend Liquid’s range to to around 1,000 nautical miles. Two bow thrusters, a Dockmate wireless controller and back-up cameras help with close-quarters maneuvering.

Aquila 54 Liquid
The steps on centerline make for easy transit between the foredeck lounge space and the Portuguese-style flybridge. Courtesy MarineMax

Liquid has a large foredeck with sun pads and forward-facing cushioned seats with cup holders for guests looking to enjoy sundowners and a view. Up a few steps, there is direct access to the flybridge. The cockpit has a Flexi teak sole shaded by the flybridge overhang. Forward-facing cushioned seats with a table and chairs, along with two stools at the wet bar, will seat multiple guests during a coastal cruise. Lower the tender for an excursion to a private beach, or take a dip off the swim platform. Open a glass door and the galley window, the lines between inside and outside entertaining disappear.

One of my favorite features on Liquid is the aft-galley arrangement. Centrally located, owners can easily entertain guests in the salon, aft deck and flybridge. It’s set up with stain-resistant Corian countertops, a stainless-steel sink with cover, a central island with stowage and a slide-out garbage bin. Three-burner propane cooktop, oven and a dedicated microwave storage location with outlet makes for easy meal prep. A double-door fridge/freezer keeps cold goods fresh and an array of cabinets and drawers offer space to stow galley accessories.

Aquila 54 Liquid
The salon’s open floor plan is enhanced by nearly 360 degrees of glass. The interior space on the Aquila 54 is the equivalent space found on a 68- to 70-foot monohull. Courtesy MarineMax

Forward on the main deck is the salon, which benefits from sizable windows with external overhangs, offering excellent visibility and reduced direct sunlight. Set the mood with overhead LED lights, LED mood lighting, LED courtesy lighting and wall-mounted LED lights. Eight guests can be seated on a portside settee with table or a starboard side sofa. Opening the glass door to the aft deck and galley window increases ventilation in the salon and it allows guests to easily mingle between the spaces. Need some additional room for a few overnight guests, the salon furniture converts into two single berths.

After a long day on the water, owners and guests can retire to one of five staterooms. The master stateroom has a king-sized berth with an ensuite head and is located forward on the main deck. Natural light flows in from windows on three sides, creating a cozy environment for the owners. The ensuite head has his-and-hers sinks, a shower. Two guest staterooms with ensuite heads are located in each hull. Liquid was also outfitted with captain and crew quarters. When not in use, owners can use the extra space for stowage, or stuff a few extra teenagers aboard for the evening.

Aquila 54 Liquid

“The award-winning Aquila 54 power catamaran delivers a world-class cruising experience with the highest CE Class A rating for recreational open ocean capability. Liquid is durably constructed and features Aquila’s signature Portuguese bridge deck with full walkaround enclosed climate-controlled bridge helm and lounge. This sumptuously appointed catamaran yacht is ideally designed for long range cruising in a variety of sea conditions and for entertaining, with multiple social areas that are loaded with amenities. Liquid is configured with the optional aft captain’s quarters, but she can easily be handled by an owner operator. Main deck extends forward for a full-beam master suite, while guests are accommodated in private starboard and port hull en-suite staterooms. Unique bulbous bows developed by Aquila in 2016, provide a seaworthy, comfortable, and fuel-efficient ride, like no other cruising catamaran yacht!” MarineMax Yachts stated.

Where is Liquid located? The yacht is currently lying in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Azimut Yachts’ Atlantis 51 is an express cruiser aimed at families looking for a vessel with home-like cruising comfort, multiple entertainment spaces and admirable performance. MarineMax currently has Utopia, a 2020 Azimut Atlantis 51, listed for $1.199 million, which represents a $100,000 price reduction.

Utopia’s sleek lines are accented by a raked windshield, which is accented further by elongated and tinted hullside windows that visually lower the yacht’s profile.

A shallow 4-foot, 3-inch draft makes the 53-footer beach- and sandbar-accessible, while twin low-hour (191) 600 hp Volvo Penta D8 diesels push Utopia to a reported 35-knot top hop and a 32-knot cruise speed. It’s also outfitted with a Seakeeper NG6 gyrostabilizer to make the ride as stable as a table.

Stepping up from the hydraulic swim platform to the cockpit, guests will notice a lounge pad atop the transom. Side decks with high rails lead to the foredeck with another sun pad for two or more guests. The bridge deck can be closed off aft in weather via a soft enclosure with a zip-shut door.

Inside, guests can enjoy lounging or dining at the U-shaped dinette with a folding table to port or the bench seat to starboard. A second bench seat is forward and to port, adjacent to the helm station.

At the helm, there are two adjustable bucket seats for comfort underway and a Garmin Volvo glass-cockpit package. For enhanced close-quarters handling, there is Volvo joystick control,  a dynamic-positioning system as well as auto-dynamic trim.

Accommodations include three staterooms that can sleep up to six people. The forepeak master stateroom has a centerline island berth and an en suite head. Ocean Alexander 28R

Boa Vida, an Ocean Alexander 28R, is listed with MarineMax for $8.49 million. The one-owner 2021 skylounge superyacht has a four-stateroom layout, low-hour diesels, a Bahamas-friendly sub-six-foot draft and a full-time crew keeping this yacht in Bristol condition.

This 90-footer has seemingly acres of outdoor spaces to enjoy. The foredeck has a dinette set abaft a three-person sun pad, making it an excellent location to have lunch and catch some sun, or head up later in the day for sundowners. In the cockpit, there’s alfresco dining space for eight to 10 guests at the transom bench seat and fixed table, just pull up some loose chairs.

The 28R’s hydraulic swim platform doubles as the yacht’s PWC stowage, and the transom door lifts to reveal the beach club, which MarineMax says “rivals a 40m superyacht.” It has a sofa, a wet bar, a flat-screen TV and stowage for items such as towels and other beach accessories–a perfect space to retreat from the sun or to prepare to head out on the water toys.

Impressive outdoor entertainment spaces continue on the after section of the flybridge, which has a hot tub flanked by sun pads. An aft-facing L-shaped settee is positioned forward against the flybridge’s enclosure. Stepping into the skylounge, a three-seat wet bar is to starboard and an L-shaped sofa sits to port abaft the two-seat helm station.

Sole-to-ceiling windows run the length of Boa Vida’s well-appointed main-deck salon, enhancing the interior space with natural lighting. Furniture helps to define the social spaces with an L-shaped sofa that forms a cozy conversational space aft, while an eight-person formal dining table is forward. The dining table is flanked by sliding doors to enjoy warm cross breezes.

Heading past the forward bulkhead, the hallway to starboard leads to the country galley. An L-shaped dinette sits in the forward port corner of the galley. An L-shaped countertop is to starboard with a second smaller countertop abaft the dinette. The galley is also equipped with a full-size refrigerator and freezer, a dishwasher, an electric cooktop, a wine cooler, an oven, a microwave and provision space for extended voyaging.

The Azimut Yachts 80 Fly called Deep Blue is currently for sale with MarineMax with an asking price of $3.69 million. The 2018 build has chic lines, 31-knot speed and a layout aimed at family cruising fun.

“Azimut designer Stefano Righini got the exterior just right, creating a flybridge and hardtop that enhance the aggressive, but not too racy, lines of the hull,” Yachting previously reported. “In the profile view, the 80 is quite sleek and proportional. From the stern, she has even more attractive symmetry: The superstructure tapers in where it joins the hull, and then flares outward as the flybridge takes over from the salon. Righini thought through the geometry, using straight lines with subtle curves and sharp angles, including a large, blue-mirrored panel at the base of the radar arch that looks like one of the salon windows from a distance.

The yacht’s salon has near sole-to-ceiling windows with natural light bathing the space, enhancing the sense of internal volume. The forward section of the salon is a formal dining area with seating for eight at an oval-shaped table. Guests get ocean views out those sizable windows. After meals, the two sofas to port and starboard with an additional loveseat to starboard beckon guests to relax and chat.

Deep Blue’s galley has two countertops worth of meal-prep space and is equipped with stowage, a stainless-steel sink, an electric cooktop, an oven, a refrigerator drawer and a freezer drawer. The lower helm station, which is outfitted with Raymarine electronics, is forward and to starboard with an L-shaped dinette to port.

Time to turn in for the night? Guests will find the four stateroom belowdecks, all with en suite heads.

  • Full-beam (20’3″) amidships master stateroom: centerline king berth
  • Forepeak VIP stateroom: centerline double berth
  • Starboard guest stateroom: twin single berths
  • Port guest stateroom: double berth

The swim platform on Deep Blue doubles as its tender stowage. Stairs flanking the transom lead up to the cockpit where up to eight guests can enjoy shaded alfresco dining at the U-shaped settee and fixed table.

When it’s time to catch some sun after a morning swim, guests can head to the foredeck where a U-shaped settee and table sit abaft a three-person sun pad.

The after section of the flybridge has space to house the SeaDoo PWC next to the grill station and Davit system. Forward to starboard is a two-person sun pad that sits back-to-back with a U-shaped dinette. A second U-shaped dinette is forward and to port, directly adjacent to the two-seat helm station. If the captain needs to dial in the desired sunlight, there’s a retractable sunroof.

Low-hour (375) 1,800 hp MAN V12 diesels provide power for Deep Blue, giving it a reported 31-knot top hop. Expect its best economical cruise speed to be 8.5 knots where it burns only 9 gallons per hour, though it can cruise at 21 knots burning a relatively economical 99 gallons per hour.

The Azimut Grande S10 Latitude is listed with MarineMax Miami Yachts for $5.9 million. Latitude is a privately used 94-foot-3-inch yacht that has been fully maintained by its full-time captain and crew and is priced to sell.

Azimut Grande S10 designers were inspired by Malibu beach-house terraces with multiple decks that descend to the sand, which was previously reported in Yachting. Designers created about 550 square feet of outdoor space on the S10, including 150 square feet of foredeck, 215 square feet of flybridge, and 183 square feet of aft deck, not including the fold-down bathing platform.

Climb the centerline steps from the two-zone aft deck that lead up to the flybridge and feel the power coming from twin MTU M96L diesel engines as they throttle up to just over 2,600 horsepower each. The Latitude has a top speed of 35 knots, but the owner can stretch the range of the boat to 750 nautical miles if he slows down and cruises around 12 knots. The flybridge is covered by a factory hardtop with an L-shaped sofa on the port side that is covered with Batyline fabric, table with chairs on the starboard side, and teak covering the walking area for everyone to enjoy. The bridge console conceals most of the Naviop-integrated instrumentation and is set into a fold-down box, which, when up, presents two touchscreen displays.

When the sun gets high, jadd carbon fiber poles and an awning to the foredeck for a siesta in the shade. Courtesy MarineMax

Latitude has several other notable feature which include the following:

  • MTU extended warranty coverage until 3/2027
  • Dockmate wireless docking remote
  • A custom AV system with 4G WI-FI
  • Upgraded lighting package throughout
  • Sun shade sail on flybridge with removable poles
  • Maneuverable lights on bow
  • Underwater lights Oceanled, 2 for each side
  • Hard top-Hauling/launching system for tender and PWC in garage
  • Hydraulic stern thruster with thrust up to 925 lbs.
  • Hi-Lo tables on bow with sunbathing cushion
  • Big american barbecue on flybridge
  • Ice maker on flybridge
  • Wine cooler in salon

One of the most comfortable areas on the Latitude is the two-zone aft deck. The stern is open and raised slightly, which will accommodate free-standing furniture, sun loungers, dancing area or whatever you want. The inner zone is tucked beneath the top-deck overhang and shielded by centerline flybridge steps, a bank of wet-bar furniture and carbon buttresses/fashion plates on both sides. Passengers can relax with cocktails and enjoy the views on a cruise to nowhere.

Step inside a set of sliding doors to the salon area of the Latitude where you will find a dining table occupying most of the port side area, and a second set of sliding glass that opens up into an additional lounging area. The sliding glass doors can be left open completely through to the lounge area and to the bridge beyond, or shut depending on what feeling, indoor-outdoor vibe, the owner wants. Close the doors and enjoy the TV area under 3 rectangular skylights and deep side windows.

Time for bed? The standard accommodation layout for the S10 has four en suite staterooms. The full-beam owners’ stateroom is amidships with an aft-facing island berth, sofa, vanity/desk and walk-in closet. The hullside windows (27-by-68 inches apiece) have Venetian blinds and super views. The trade-off for that sizable stateroom is the placement of the VIP, which is tucked in the bow with a diagonal double berth. Twin- and transverse-berth staterooms are just off the middle of the guest companionway.

The Ocean Alexander 27R Almost Done is on the market with just 470 hours on its twin 1,650 hp MAN diesels. Top speed is 24 knots. Asking price is $7.99 million. Courtesy MarineMax

MarineMax currently has Almost Done, an Ocean Alexander 27R, listed for sale with an asking price of $7.99 million. The low-hour 2022 build will make a lasting impression with its beach club, whirlpool spa and five-stateroom layout which has an on-deck master stateroom and three VIP staterooms in total.

The “R in this series from Ocean Alexander, stands for Revolution,” Yachting previously reported. “It’s an apt description because the series, which also includes the 88-foot 27R and 97-foot 30R, is different from anything else Ocean Alexander has built in its 40-plus years in business. Starting with the styling, which is decidedly modern and edgy, there’s a deliberate break from the builder’s more traditional look. It’s all the more notable that the appearances of both the traditional cruisers and the Revolution series come from yacht designer Evan K. Marshall.”

Ocean Alexander 27R
The yacht’s beach club creates a sea-level oasis for owners and guests. Note the 1,500-pound-capacity hydraulic swim platform. Courtesy MarineMax

Stepping onto Almost Done’s hydraulic swim platform guests will immediately notice the beach club. Where most yachts have a white transom door, the Ocean Alexander 27R has tinted sliding glass doors that open to expose a fully-equipped entertainment space with a wet bar, flat-screen TV and an L-shaped settee.

Stairs flanking the beach club lead to Almost Done‘s cockpit, which has shaded alfresco dining with a table and transom bench seat.

Near sole-to-ceiling windows run the length of the 88-footer’s salon bringing in natural light and creating a sense of openness and volume. Smartly placed furniture helps to define the salon’s entertainment spaces with an L-shaped sofa to port and cabinet to starboard, moving the casual seating aft and having a more formal dining space forward at the 10-person dining table.

A bulkhead forward of the salon’s formal dining separates the galley from the salon. The galley, which is furnished with stone countertops and painted paneled cabinets, is set up for the 27R’s chef to prepare next-level meals with Jenn-Air appliances, including an over-the-range microwave, a dishwasher, an electric cooktop and an electric oven. It also has a stainless-steel kitchen sink with a pull-out faucet, cabinetry stowage with hidden hinges, a Whirlpool garbage disposal and trash compactor, a 32-inch Fisher & Paykel refrigerator and a Scotsman Brilliance gourmet clear ice maker.

Impressive spaces on board Almost Done continue at the flybridge. The after section boasts a whirlpool space surrounded on three sides by a lounge pad. Forward and to port, is a C-shaped sofa with two fixed tables that create an alfresco dining space for 10 or more people. When it’s time for cocktails, there’s a three-seat bar to port. In the enclosed portion of the flybridge is the helm station, a desk and a C-shaped dinette.

When it’s time to catch some sun, guests can head to the foredeck lounge with its three-person sun pad and a C-shaped dinette, making this an excellent spot to enjoy sundowners with friends.

The 27R is notable for its on-deck master stateroom, which is bathed in natural light thanks to windows in all directions, and even overhead. It has a king berth, walk-in closets, electric shades and an en suite head with a heated stone sole. Belowdecks, guests will find three VIP staterooms and one guest cabin. All three VIP staterooms have queen berths, stowage and en suite heads. The final guest cabin has a twin berth. There is also a three-cabin crew quarters, which has two cabins with bunks and one captain’s cabin.

Twin 1,650 hp MAN V-12 diesels provide power for Almost Done, giving it a reported 24-knot top hop. At press time, the engines had just 470 hours on them and a full warranty through September 2024. The 27R is also equipped with Sleipner Vector Fin stabilization and 23.3 hp bow and stern thrusters to enhance close-quarter maneuvering.
